Village
Sant Llorenç Savall is a mountain municipality of Vallès Occidental, in the province of Barcelona, with four termenat castles within its territory, among them the ruins of the castle of la Pera. Situated on the border with Bages, Moianès and Vallès Oriental, it has 2,587 inhabitants spread across three settlements, Sant Llorenç, Les Marines and la Comabella. It also preserves the Romanesque church of Sant Feliu de Vallcarca and the remains of a prehistoric dolmen, that of Roca Sereny, discovered recently. Its coat of arms, approved in 1990, shows a gridiron and palms, attributes of the martyr Saint Lawrence, patron of the town, alongside roses alluding to the valley. The Centre d'Esports Llorençà, founded in 1932, and a tradition of giants and cap-grossos are part of local life.
Monument
The castle of Pera was a fortification in Sant Llorenç Savall (Vallès Occidental) whose remains are declared a cultural asset of national interest. The district of Pera is first mentioned in 1017, and in 1065 the lord Gerbert Donuç bequeathed the castle, together with other possessions, to his daughter Nevia. It passed through different hands over the centuries —the Vilar, the Carner, the Viscount of Cardona, the Marquès, also lords of the castle of la Roca del Vallès— until it reached Pere de Sentmenat in 1378, a family that still held it in the 18th century. Its ruins stand atop a hill from which much of the Vall d'Horta can be seen, and it is reached by the local path C-56 from the Can Brossa farmhouse.
Monument
The Castell de la Roca, also called Torrota de la Roca, stands in the south of the district of Sant Llorenç Savall, in the Vallès Occidental. It is a Romanesque-style tower already documented in 1087, which formed part of the defensive system of the Castell de Pera, for which it served as a lookout over the valleys of Horta and Ripoll, terrain the latter did not command. A square building 11.5 metres on each side survives, with the northeast wall in better condition, about 3 metres high, built with stones of various sizes and cut cobbles. A few metres to the east there are very scant remains of a second watchtower. The whole has been declared a cultural asset of national interest since 1988.
Monument
The Castell de Rocamur stood on the hill of the same name, between the Marquet de les Roques and the Vall de Mur, in the district of Sant Llorenç Savall, Vallès Occidental. Built in Romanesque style between the 11th and 12th centuries, it depended on the Counts of Barcelona: in 1157 Arbert de Sa Pera swore fealty to Count Ramon Berenguer IV for this stronghold, and in 1162 he bequeathed it, together with other possessions, to Guillem de Terrassa. There is no further record of the castle after that date, and it seems its territory ended up incorporated into that of the Castell de Pera. Today only scant wall remains survive at the foot of the crag. It has been declared a cultural asset of national interest since 1988.
Monument
Of the Casal de Vallverd, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest, some wall remains survive beside the chapel of Sant Jaume de Vallverd, to its north and at a higher level. There are few documentary records: in 1190 the will of Bernat de Vallverd mentions that a chapel had been built inside the stronghold, and in 1205 Bernat and his wife bequeathed it, in free allod, to their son Bernat.
Nature
Megalithic burial site located on a buttress of the southern slope of the Roca Sareny, in the municipality of Sant Llorenç Savall, at 760 metres above sea level, near the summit. It was discovered in 2005 by hikers from the Unió Excursionista de Sabadell, after a 2003 forest fire had left the rock exposed. It is a rectangular chamber of blocks and slabs of conglomerate and sandstone, 1.5 by 0.6 by 0.5 metres, oriented from southeast to northwest. Excavations from 2005 to 2007 found the remains of at least six individuals, a small flint blade, two perforated bone buttons and pottery fragments, and date it between the Chalcolithic and the Early Bronze Age (2200-1500 BC): it is the first megalithic monument found in the Ripoll valley. Today it is protected by a metal fence.
Food and drink
Native apple of the Vallès Occidental, of yellow skin, good size and marked flavour, picked in the orchards around Sant Llorenç del Munt. Its eating season runs from December to March and it figures in the park's catalogue of local products.
