About Bitácora Hispana
An independent catalogue of what to see in every town in Spain
What it is
Bitácora Hispana is an illustrated catalogue of 42.067 places across Spain: villages, monuments, natural sites, festivals and activities, historical milestones, food and curiosities. It is organised by region, province, comarca and municipality, so every town has its own page with what there is to see in it, however small.
It can be read in Spanish, Catalan, Basque, French and English, and every entry links to Google Maps to get you there.
Who makes it
It is a personal, independent project, built and maintained by a private individual. It does not depend on any public body, tourist office or travel company, and nobody pays to appear in the catalogue or to rank higher: the order is decided by the votes of registered users.

Where the data comes from
The information is gathered from public sources: Wikipedia and Wikidata, Spain’s National Statistics Institute, the websites of town councils and comarcas, and the official registers of cultural heritage and protected natural areas. Descriptions are drafted with the help of artificial-intelligence tools from those sources and then reviewed so that each entry says something true and specific about the place.
Even so, there may be mistakes or details that have changed. Always check opening hours and access before you go, and if you spot something wrong, tell us: it gets fixed.
Where the photos come from
Nearly all photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are published under their free licence: every entry shows the author, the licence and a link to the original. All of them have been checked one by one to make sure they show the place the entry is about and not another with the same name.
When there is no free photo of the place, the entry shows a view of the municipality and says so. If you have a better photo and it is yours, you can suggest it from the entry itself.
How to take part
With a free account you can vote for your favourite places, leave comments that help whoever goes next, save lists of places for your trips and suggest new places and photos. Everything that is suggested is reviewed before it is published.
