What to see and do in Castellar del Vallès

Castellar del Vallès
Village
Castellar del Vallès is a municipality in Vallès Occidental, in the province of Barcelona, 7 km from Sabadell and 11 from Tarrasa. It preserves the castle of Clasquerí and the old Iberian settlement of Puig de la Creu. The earliest signs of settlement date from 7000 BC, with agricultural activity since the Neolithic and an Iron Age necropolis from the 7th century BC found at Pla de la Bruguera. Excavations at Castellar Vell uncovered a Carolingian-period settlement, between 800 and 1000, and a cemetery with 250 burials from the 11th to the 13th centuries. The present-day village, beside the river Ripoll, arose as Sagrera de les Fàbregues and took its definitive name in 1933.
Castle of Castellar (Clasquerí)
Monument
The castle of Clasquerí is the castle that gives its name to Castellar del Vallès, in Vallès Occidental. Documented since 939, the present structure derives largely from the 1335 remodeling carried out by Guerau de Clasquerí, with restorations spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. The complex, with a trapezoidal floor plan, a central courtyard and crenellated towers at the corners, also includes the Gothic chapel of Santa Bàrbara, with 1548 paintings by Pere Serafí, an aqueduct that carried water to the castle's pool, and a two-story farmhouse. In a chamber of the main tower a mural painting from 1581 is preserved. It is declared Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
La Creu Peak
Monument
The Puig de la Creu is a mountain of 668 meters straddling the boundary between the municipalities of Castellar del Vallès and Sentmenat, in the comarca of Vallès Occidental, above a former fortified Iberian settlement. At the summit there is a geodetic vertex and a castle built between the 16th and 17th centuries, protected as Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), and at the highest point stands the Romanesque church of Santa Maria del Puig de la Creu. According to legend, this is where the dragon of Sant Llorenç del Munt died. This peak is included on the list of the 100 summits of the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya.
Castellar del Vallès Main Festival

The Festa Major of Castellar del Vallès is celebrated in mid-September (12-15 September in 2025), with concerts and activities organised by the town council over several days.
