Privacy policy

Who is responsible

The site https://bitacorahispana.com, run by its individual owner. For any question about this policy or your data, you can write to bitacorahispana26@gmail.com.

What data is stored when you create an account

When an account is created, the following is stored: email address, username, password (only encrypted, never in plain text), chosen language, sign-up date, and whether the email has been confirmed.

If you do not create an account, none of your personal data is stored.

What is stored while using the site

If you have an account and use the site, the following is also stored: votes (which places and when), comments and their date, and the photos and places you suggest, together with the note that comes with them and who submitted them.

All of this is linked to your account.

You can also vote and comment without creating an account, as a visitor.

To limit one vote per place and prevent abuse, an encrypted fingerprint of your IP address is stored (a code derived from it using a secret key on the server), never the IP address itself. This fingerprint travels together with votes, comments and lists you share without an account, and is kept for as long as they exist.

If you have an account, the lists of places you create (name, description, places and notes) are private: they can only be seen with the link you generate when you share them, and you can turn it off whenever you want.

If you share a list without having an account, a fixed copy is stored that cannot be changed or deleted from the website; a moderator can take it down, and if you want it taken down you can write to bitacorahispana26@gmail.com.

Lists you do not share, without an account, are stored only in your browser.

In addition, whether you have an account or not, the server keeps standard access logs (IP address, page requested and time) for a limited time, only for security and troubleshooting.

What it is used for

This data is used to make the account work (signing in, confirming the email), to show votes and comments on the site, and to review suggested photos and places before publishing them.

It is not used for advertising, and it is never sold or handed over to third parties.

Who it is shared with

It is not shared with anyone, except with the email delivery service Brevo, which receives your email address to deliver the account confirmation email and, when you suggest a photo or a place, to send the internal moderation notice, which includes your name and email address.

The site runs on its own rented server (a VPS) at a hosting provider.

How long it is kept and how to delete it

Data is kept for as long as the account exists.

To delete your account and all of its data, write to bitacorahispana26@gmail.com from the account’s email address; deletion is carried out within 30 days.

What is stored on your device

On your device the following is stored: the session (a cookie), the language preference and, if you use the app or install the website, a copy of the entries, photos and maps you have viewed, so you can look at them without coverage, together with a queue of actions done offline.

If you allow it, the map can use your location to centre itself on it; this happens only on your device: the location is never sent to the server nor stored.

You can delete all of this from "Clear data saved on this device" in the footer, or by clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app.
