What to see and do in Bell-lloc d'Urgell

Bell-lloc d'Urgell
Village
Bell-lloc d'Urgell is a municipality in the western end of the Pla d'Urgell comarca, in the province of Lleida, 14 kilometres from the capital, on a plain that rises to 202 metres. It has 2,364 inhabitants. It is first mentioned in 1168, in the endowment of the cathedral of Lleida, which received the place as a donation. Its old quarter took shape around the present-day Carrer Major, where the oldest houses in the village are preserved. Until the subcanal was built, some fifty years ago, the municipal term was dry farmland, given over to cereals, olives, vines and almonds. It preserves the parish church of Sant Miquel and the old telegraph tower.
Parish Church of Sant Miquel
Monument
Parish church of Bell-lloc d'Urgell (Pla d'Urgell), in a colonial Renaissance style close to neoclassical, with a Latin-cross plan, three naves and a large dome. It was built on the site of the original church, probably Gothic and rebuilt in the 17th century, destroyed during the civil war of 1936; until a provisional church opened in 1942, services were held under the arcades of the Plaza Mayor. Its materials were reused in 1940 for the new church and the rectory, and on 15 June 1945 the foundations of the present church were laid, consecrated on 18 May 1952; of the three bells of the previous church, the small one is preserved. The village also preserves a 12th-century Romanesque doorway and a 13th-century boundary cross, from the earlier church.
Tower of el Telègraf de Bell-lloc
Monument
Former optical telegraph tower in the municipal term of Bell-lloc d'Urgell (Pla d'Urgell, Lleida), belonging to the Barcelona-Lleida military optical line. It stood near the village cemetery, on what is now the carrer del Telègraf, whose name recalls its presence; today only some remains survive at the site, which may correspond to the base of the tower.
Bell-lloc d'Urgell Main Festival
Activity
The Festa Major de Setembre of Bell-lloc d'Urgell is held in September; the town council organises a poster contest every year (the twentieth edition in 2026) to advertise it. The parish is dedicated to Sant Miquel.
Hermitage of Bell-lloc d'Urgell

Fair of l'Agricultura de Bell-lloc
