Els Alamús
Village
Els Alamús is a small municipality in the market-garden area of the Segrià, in the province of Lleida, situated near the border with the Plana de Urgell, at 212 metres above sea level and with 835 inhabitants. It groups together the settlements of els Alamús, la Barceloneta and Vensilló, the latter linked to the Order of the Temple and made into an independent municipality in the early 19th century, until its incorporation into els Alamús between 1832 and 1842. In Vensilló rises the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu de Vensilló, heir to the church of Santa Maria mentioned in 1168, today flanked by the twin farmhouses of Mas en Creu. The relief of the municipality, predominantly flat, is crossed by the Urgell auxiliary canal and several irrigation channels, and its economy is based on irrigated agriculture and livestock farming.
