What to see and do in Sidamon

Sidamon
Village
Sidamon is a municipality in the Pla d'Urgell, in the province of Lleida, in the west of the comarca and irrigated by the Canal Auxiliar de Urgel. It has 760 inhabitants (INE 2025) on a flat term at 232 metres above sea level. The place name is documented from 1079 as Cidamundum, an Arabic-Latin hybrid of uncertain origin: it may come from ací damunt ('up here'), from the Arabic name Sidi Amud, or from the Germanic Sigmund. It took forms such as Sidemunt and Sidamunt, until in 1933 it was fixed as Sidamón; in 1937 it was renamed Olèstria for unknown reasons, a change annulled under Francoism, and it was not until 1983 that it was standardised to its current spelling, Sidamon. It is known for the statue called el gegant de Sidamon.
