What to see and do in Polinyà

Polinyà
Village
Polinyà is a municipality in Vallès Occidental, on the boundary with Vallès Oriental, at 123-182 metres of altitude depending on the source, which includes the settlement of Serra Maurina. It occupies the site of the Roman villa of Paulinianum, named after its owner, the Roman Paulinus, and crossed by the Via Augusta; after the Visigothic invasion it remained depopulated until the Reconquista. In 969 the counts of Barcelona sold their lands to a certain Galí, and they later passed through the hands of several lords and the canonesses of Santa Eulàlia del Camp and Santa Ana de Barcelona. The church of Sant Salvador, consecrated in 1122, preserves Romanesque mural painting; excavations in 1999 found a Late Antiquity settlement, and in 1965 a Miocene mastodon was found, the first specimen of its kind in Spain.
Church of Polinyà
Monument
The parish church of Polinyà, in the Vallès Occidental (Barcelona), stands next to the Romanesque church of Sant Salvador, consecrated in 1122. From that original building survive the semicircular 11th-century apse, decorated with blind arcades between lesenes, and the nave covered by a barrel vault and the bell tower, both 12th-century work. The church functioned as a parish until 1792, when the present neoclassical church was built. The old Romanesque building preserved an important set of 12th-century wall paintings, attributed to canon Renall of Barcelona, moved in 1930 to the Museu Diocesà de Barcelona.
Polinyà Summer Main Festival
Activity
The Summer Festa Major of Polinyà is celebrated on the second weekend of July, with a "correfoc" fire-run, a water festival, a water slide, a bar-crawl race and mud football.
