What to see and do in Cabrils

Cabrils
Village
Cabrils is an inland municipality of the Maresme comarca, in the province of Barcelona, situated about ten kilometres from Mataró, between the Cirers and Montcabrer hills and surrounded by pine woods and holm oak groves. It has close to 7,800 inhabitants. Its economy was traditionally based on orange and vegetable farming, today replaced by the flower-growing of carnations and roses; since the 1980s construction and residential development have transformed the landscape, and the municipality ranks among those with the highest per capita income in Catalonia. It preserves masies and rural towers scattered across its territory and the hermitage of Sant Cristòfol.
Tower of Ca n'Amat
Monument
A rural tower in the municipality of Cabrils linked to the fortified farmhouse of Ca n'Amat, declared a cultural asset of national interest. The farmhouse retains the voussoired portal and Gothic windows from the mid-14th century, with three wings perpendicular to the facade and a cellar wing joined by arches of dressed stone. The defence tower, from the 16th century, has a square plan, three storeys covered with vaults and a crenellated terrace roof, and was built to answer pirate attacks on the Catalan coast. Cabrils was part of the jurisdiction of Vilassar Castle until 1820, when it became independent.
Can Veïl
Monument
Can Veïl, also called Can Vehils, is a fortified farmhouse in the municipality of Cabrils, in the Maresme, declared a cultural asset of national interest. It is a manor house with a square defence tower and, originally, a pyramidal roof; at the beginning of the 20th century it had a basilica-type facade, similar to those of Can Vives or Can Carbonell, with the house divided into a ground floor and three upper storeys, the highest corresponding to the defence tower. Today it is heavily renovated and has lost much of its original appearance, with a three-storey block added at the rear, although the tower still rises forcefully above the whole.
