What to see and do in Òrrius

Òrrius
Village
Òrrius is the smallest municipality in the Maresme, with 5.57 km², located at 269 metres of altitude and 9 kilometres from Mataró. It is already mentioned in 974 as vila de Orreos, from the Latin horrea (granaries); it belonged to the lords of the castle of Burriac until in 1357 Peter IV of Aragon gave its jurisdiction to the lords of La Roca del Vallès. Its church of Sant Andreu, from the 16th century and late Gothic in style, preserves a small Romanesque hermitage next to the baptistery, and in 1981 a hoard of coins from the time of Berenguer Ramon II was found inside it. In the nearby woods lies the dolmen of Céllecs, with figures carved into the rock around 1950. The main festival, on 30 November, hands out the traditional peixos, a small fish-shaped pastry. It has 812 inhabitants.
Park of la Serralada Litoral
Nature
A park protecting part of the Serralada de Marina, in the south of the Maresme, and part of the Barcelona Provincial Council's Network of Natural Parks. It has been coordinated since 1992 by a consortium made up of the Provincial Council, the Generalitat, the county councils of the Maresme and the Vallès Oriental, and fourteen municipalities, including Òrrius, and is governed by a special plan approved in 2004. Following the 2013 expansion, it protects 7,400 hectares spread across those fourteen municipal areas; geographically it corresponds to the northern end of the Serralada de Marina, and its highest point is the Turó de Céllecs, at 534 metres.
