What to see and do in Gallegos del Pan

Gallegos del Pan
Village
Gallegos del Pan is a municipality in Zamora province, with 118 inhabitants over just above fifteen square kilometres. Administratively it belongs to the Toro district, although because of its name some consider it part of the Tierra del Pan. It sits on the slope of a valley descending from the Duero floodplain at Coreses, and is split into two halves by the Fuenticas stream; its altitude is 683 metres, with the Teso de la Aceña, or Mirazamora, as its highest point, at 764 metres. At Majacerrada a prehistoric site from the pre-Beaker Chalcolithic period was found, with copper and bronze pieces. Its first known census, from 1561, counted 44 households, and the village keeps alive the tradition of the pig slaughter, which begins with the first frosts of November.
The baroque altarpiece of San Juan Bautista
Monument
The parish church holds an eighteenth-century Baroque altarpiece with reliefs of scenes of Saint Peter the Apostle, the chief artistic piece of a village that in 2025 counted 118 registered inhabitants.
The Zamoran chorizo of the pig slaughter
Food and drink
Between November and February the pig slaughter yields ham, lard and the Zamoran chorizo, cured with paprika, garlic and oregano and aged for four to eight weeks in the village's underground cellars.
The hillock of la Aceña
Nature
The highest point of the municipal district, the teso de la Aceña, reaches 764 metres above a built-up area set at 695; the arroyo de las Fuenticas divides the municipality, wrapped in winter in persistent fog.
