Torres del Carrizal
Village
Torres del Carrizal is a village in the comarca of Tierra del Pan, in the province of Zamora, about 15 kilometres from the provincial capital. The earliest traces of occupation are found at the Teso de la Mora site, inhabited from the Early Iron Age until the Cantabrian Wars. The present-day village arose with the medieval resettlement by the kings of León; their descendants made successive donations to the Chapter of Zamora cathedral. Until the 1916 reform the village was called simply Torres. Its church of la Asunción preserves an altarpiece by Juan Ruiz de Zumeta finished off by Antonio López, and along its streets are scattered the ethnographic sculptures of Mariano Fernández Prieto depicting rural life. It has 413 inhabitants.
