What to see and do in Matilla la Seca

Matilla la Seca
Village
Matilla la Seca is a hamlet in Zamora province, in the Toro district, 24 kilometres from the provincial capital, set on flat ground at 738 metres above sea level; it has 33 inhabitants, compared with the 222 it had in the mid-19th century. Linked for centuries to the city of Toro, especially since the year 899, when the infante Don García resettled that city with people of varied origin, its existence is already documented in 1128, when the donation of the church of Matilla to the Zamora monastery of Santo Tomé is recorded, and a charter dated 1195 records some residents handing over their properties there to the monastery of Moreruela. From the Cortes of León of 1188 onward it was one of the towns represented by Toro, on whose archpriesthood it depended in the Middle Ages.
