What to see and do in Aguarón

Aguarón
Village
Aguarón is a wine-growing municipality in the province of Zaragoza, in the Campo de Cariñena, surrounded by vineyards of the Cariñena Denomination of Origin and holding the title of villa. It has 602 inhabitants (INE 2025), compared with the 1,125 it had in the mid-19th century. It belonged to the lordship of the monastery of Bernardine nuns of Trasobares until the disentailment, and in the mid-19th century had about ten brandy stills and an oil mill. Its main monument is the baroque church of San Miguel Arcángel, from the 18th century, with two towers framing the facade, altarpieces from the 16th to the 18th centuries and a monumental organ. On the feast of San Blas, 3 February, the fiesta de los quintos is celebrated, recreating in traditional costume the old lottery for military service.

Vineyard landscape of Aguarón
Nature
Aguarón, at the foot of the sierra de Algairén, sits between 400 and 800 m on reddish limestone soils and divides its district among the vineyards of the Cariñena Designation of Origin. The semi-arid landscape, with frequent winds and torrential watercourses, once attracted Goya and, more recently, the filmmaker Julio Medem.
