What to see and do in La Fresneda

La Fresneda
Village
La Fresneda, la Freixneda in Catalan, is a villa of 459 inhabitants in the province of Teruel, in the Matarraña comarca, bathed by the river of the same name. The earliest settlements in its territory date back to the Bronze Age, with remains of sacred geometry and astronomy on the mountain of Santa Bárbara. Conquered from the Muslims in 1170 by Alfonso II, who included it in his donation to the Order of Calatrava, it received the title of villa in 1283 from Peter III. In 1839, during the First Carlist War, General Cabrera ordered its castle destroyed before abandoning the town. It preserves the palace of the Encomienda, from the 16th century, the church of Santa María la Mayor and the sanctuary of the Virgen de Gracia.
