What to see and do in La Portellada

La Portellada
Village
La Portellada is a municipality in the Matarraña comarca, in the province of Teruel, with 249 inhabitants, where a variant of Catalan specific to the Franja de Aragón is spoken. Its history was linked to that of La Fresneda until an agreement of 1783, sanctioned by Charles III in 1784, recognised its independence and turned it into a villa, then with 500 inhabitants. The village remains divided into two districts, Mas de Dalt and Mas de Baix, which recall its origin as two masías. Olive oil, protected by the designation of origin of the Bajo Aragón, and almonds are its main sources of income. In the El Salto site, the Tastavins river forms a waterfall about 20 metres high. Its parish church of San Cosme and San Damián, from the 17th century, preserves paintings from 1758 in the dome.

It was a district of La Fresneda until a concord signed in Calanda on 27 October 1783 and a royal charter of 1784 recognized its independence; its current name was fixed in the 1916 municipal reform.
