What to see and do in Beneixida

Beneixida
Village
Beneixida is one of the smallest municipalities in the comarca of La Ribera Alta, in the valley of Cárcer, bathed by the Júcar River, which forms the northern boundary of the territory. Its name comes from the Arabic banī Jidda, and the village's origin lies in an alquería of the same name that James I gave to the Despuig family. The Mudéjar population was not expelled after the Reconquest and remained as a labour force; a mosque operated there until 1526, when it was converted into a Catholic church. Shortly before the expulsion of the Moriscos, in 1609, 67 families lived here, and in 1787 it had barely 131 inhabitants. Today it has 659. Its church, with its bell tower, dominates the modest village square, and decorates its interior with agricultural motifs and orange trees, in reference to local rural life.
