What to see and do in Alfarb

Alfarb
Village
Alfarb is a municipality in the Valencian Ribera Alta situated by the Magre River, in the former Marquisate of Llombai, very close to Llombai and Catadau. Its name comes from the Arabic al-jarb, “the uninhabited place”, an origin shared by other districts in its territory, such as Almaguer. To the south, where the river forms a semi-enclosed meander, irrigated farmland is concentrated, while the rest of the terrain, limestone and gypsum, has little vegetation beyond scrubland and esparto grass. In May 2024 a public referendum was held to choose between the place-names Alfarp and Alfarb; although Alfarp won by a wide margin, the municipality officially continues to be called Alfarb. Its main monument is the church of Santiago Apóstol, built in 1712 and restored in 1964, with a Gothic façade and Valencian rococo decoration.
