What to see and do in Gátova

Gátova
Village
Gátova, the smallest municipality of El Camp de Túria, lies at the western end of the Sierra Calderona, at the foot of the Pico del Águila, with sloping streets that follow the terrain. Until 1995 it belonged to Castellón and the comarca of Alto Palancia, a change the town council requested because of service problems. The settlement originates from the Muslim alquería of Catava, which James I granted in 1238 to Pedro Fernández de Azagra along with the castles of Altura and Chelva; it was later a place of Moriscos, with twenty-five houses in 1602. Within its territory are Bronze Age remains at Marmalé de Abajo and the Iberian ruins of Torrejón. It has 452 inhabitants; its mountains, with El Gorgo as the second-highest peak of the Sierra Calderona, are covered with pines and holm oaks.

Aqueduct of Piñel de Gátova
Monument
The Piñel aqueduct is located in the partida de Piñel, next to the road from Gátova to Altura, just over a kilometre from the village. It is formed of two stone arches and was used to supply the population with water; some have dated it to Roman times, although it appears to have actually been built in the Muslim period. It forms part of the municipality's heritage routes, within the Sierra Calderona.
