What to see and do in Marines

Marines
Village
Marines is a municipality of El Camp de Túria, in the province of Valencia, situated on the southern slope of the Sierra Calderona and built on the former lands of the La Maimona farmhouse (masía); its territory, rich in springs and fountains, is drained by the Barranco de Carraixet, the most important watercourse in the municipality, which runs 52.5 km before reaching the sea. It is split into two inhabited settlements about ten kilometres apart, Marines and Marines Viejo, after a landslide badly damaged the original village in 1957, forcing the population to be relocated to a new site; between the two settlements stands the Castillo El Real, an 11th-century fortress with a tower, walls and Arab wells, which gives its name to one of the mountains in the municipality. It has 1,967 inhabitants (INE 2025).

Between Marines and Marines Viejo stands the Castillo El Real, an 11th-century fortress with a tower, walls and Arab wells, while the Torre de Olla, listed as a heritage asset in 2002, rises on the old Olla road.
Marines Viejo, the village that split in two
Curiosity
After a landslide in 1957 that badly damaged the original village, the municipality of Marines was left split into two settlements some ten kilometres apart, Marines and Marines Viejo, both inhabited and each with its own charm.
