What to see and do in Quatretondeta

Quatretondeta
Village
Quatretondeta, formerly called Quatretondeta de la Serrella, is a municipality in the Alicante comarca of the Condado de Cocentaina, hemmed into the valley of Seta, with rugged terrain of ravines and peaks ranging from 700 to 1,359 metres. It preserves the holm oak of Tía Sofía, a centuries-old specimen more than 250 years old, and the church of San Juan Bautista, from the 17th century, which depended on the parish of Balones until its independence in 1786. In 1602 it was inhabited by around forty Morisco families, under the lordship of the Cardona family and later the Palafox family. On 27 October 1924 Matilde Pérez Mollá was elected mayor, the first woman to hold that office in Spain. The village had as many as 440 inhabitants in the early 20th century; today it has 130.
