Millena
Village
Millena, at 634 metres above sea level in the comarca of El Comtat (Alicante), lies in the valley of Travadell, between the foothills of the Sierra de la Caraita and the Sierra de Almudaina. It preserves the Castillo de Travadell, a fortress of Muslim origin occupied by the Crown of Aragon between 1245 and 1248 that served as a link between the castles of Cocentaina and Planes, and the Torre de Millena, both declared Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). Raimundo de Camera, the first Christian resettler, received land here in 1248, and the territory later passed through several lordships, among them that of the marquises of Guadalest. Its economy revolves around an oil mill that extracts virgin olive oil using the traditional method. With 265 inhabitants, it is one of the least populated municipalities in the comarca.
