What to see and do in Los Montesinos

Los Montesinos
Village
Los Montesinos is a municipality in the Vega Baja del Segura comarca, in southern Alicante province, predominantly Spanish-speaking, with 5,786 inhabitants. Its name probably comes from the noble Montesinos family, former owner of estates in the area, which was dry farmland until Cardinal Belluga's hydraulic reforms and the later Canal de los Riegos de Levante extended irrigation and settled a population devoted to growing citrus fruit and early vegetables. It was a hamlet of Almoradí until 1990, when it achieved administrative separation. It preserves the old agricultural estate of La Marquesa, with its tower, hermitage, cistern and wine cellar; that church was raised to a parish in 1829 to serve the area's farmers.
