What to see and do in Renau

Renau
Village
Renau is a small municipality in the comarca of Tarragonès, at 175 metres above sea level, with 165 inhabitants (2025). Its place name (mas of Reinaldus) already appears in 1161 in a parchment of Archbishop Bernard of Tarragona preserved in the Historical Archive of Santes Creus. It belonged to the lordship of the Catllar family until, at the start of the 14th century, it passed by marriage to the Montoliu family; in 1842 it merged with the neighbouring settlement of Peralta, today uninhabited. The parish church, dedicated to Saint Lucy, was built between 1749 and 1756. On the outskirts stands the sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreto, documented since the 17th century although the chapel was replaced in 1704; its hermitage was restored in 1926 and its walls preserve paintings by Josep Maria Jujol made in 1925.
Church of Renau
Monument
Church of Santa Llúcia, built next to the old feudal castle and greatly extended between 1749 and 1756, with a bell tower from the mid-19th century; in the 18th century it was enriched with four Baroque altarpieces by the sculptor Francesc Bonifàs, from the Vallès region. Despite losses during the Civil War (1936-39), it preserves a Gothic image of the Virgen de Lloret, a 17th-century Baroque carving of the Virgen del Rosario and a silver processional cross, also from the 17th century.
Renau Main Festival
Activity
The Festa Major of Renau includes communal dinners, open-air summer cinema, children's activities and a correfoc (fire-run).
