Bràfim
Village
Bràfim is a municipality in the comarca of Alt Camp, in the province of Tarragona, with 697 inhabitants (INE 2025), with a rain-fed farming economy, chiefly vines and olives. The place name, of Arabic origin, is documented from 959 as «villa qui vocant ortum Abrahim»; the village was resettled under a charter of settlement granted on 10 September 1159 by Guillem de Torroja, Bishop of Barcelona, and was included from the early 15th century in the barony of Vallmoll. It preserves the church of Sant Jaume, from the late 17th century, and the neo-Romanesque sanctuary of Nostra Senyora de Loreto. Outside the village stands the Torre del Garriga, a medieval defensive structure declared a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection); at Cal Garriga the Casa Vermouth Padró has operated since 2018.
