What to see and do in el Molar

El Molar
Village
El Molar is a municipality in the comarca of the Priorat, at its western end, next to the boundary with the Ribera d'Ebre, which contributes part of its territory to the Priorat qualified designation of origin. Its name is a Romance place name derived from mola, the base stone of mills: it may refer to the presence of mills in the area or to the extraction of grindstones, since the territory abounds in red sandstone and still preserves a quarry with a half-carved millstone. The territory, shaped like an elongated V, is very rugged: its entire eastern boundary follows the course of the Montsant river to its confluence with the Siurana, which then marks the southern border, while the rest is crossed by ridges and ravines descending from the north.
