La Torre de l'Espanyol
Village
La Torre de l'Espanyol is a municipality in the Ribera d'Ebre, in Tarragona, at 164 metres of altitude, on the left bank of the Ebro, upstream of the Pas de l'Ase and 16.5 km from Móra d'Ebre. Its territory combines plains to the west with the Serra del Tormo (523 m) to the southeast, drained by the Riu de la Torre, a tributary of the Ebro. The village takes its name from a tower that Count Alfons I of Barcelona granted in 1175 to the knight Espanyol de Prades, and it was constituted as an independent municipality in 1348. It now has 641 inhabitants. Its baroque parish church of Sant Jaume was completed in 1787.

La Torre de l'Espanyol, the smallest village in the Ribera d'Ebre
Monument
The smallest municipality of the Ribera d'Ebre by population, known for its modernist winery. Located on the left bank of the Ebro, at 164 metres above sea level, it now has 641 inhabitants, far from the 1,527 it once had in 1900. Its name comes from a 1175 grant by Count Alfonso I to a knight called Espanyol, over an old Roman watchtower; the place was under the Order of the Temple until 1307-1312 and then under the Order of the Hospital until the 19th century. It lives on dry farming (olive, almond) and irrigated farming (fruit trees), and on poultry and pig farming. The parish church of Sant Jaume, with a façade featuring a wavy pediment, was completed in 1787.
