Sant Joan de Mollet
Village
Sant Joan de Mollet is a small agricultural municipality in the Gironès, documented since the year 844 under the jurisdiction of the bishopric of Gerona, when it had barely 29 hearths, about 150 inhabitants. It was called simply Mollet until 1916 and, after going by Mollet de Ter during the Civil War, adopted its current name in 1981. In the 18th century the Vinyals irrigation channel was opened, thanks to a royal privilege of 1788 that allowed the lands of Bordils, Celrà, Juià, Flaçà and the village itself to be irrigated with water from the Ter. Today it has 536 inhabitants (INE 2025) and lives from dryland and irrigated farming, livestock raising and poultry farming. The village was built around an old castle of which only stretches of wall remain, and preserves a 19th-century neoclassical church built on a small rise.
