What to see and do in Parets del Vallès

Parets del Vallès
Village
Parets del Vallès is a municipality in the southwest of the Vallès Oriental, in the province of Barcelona, crossed from north to south by the Tenes river, which preserves the tower of Cellers, on the banks of the Besòs. It has about 19,000 inhabitants, spread across six neighbourhoods, among them the Barrio Antiguo, on a hill next to the church, and the Ensanche, planned in the 1930s. The earliest reference to the place is from the year 878, and the current name probably comes from Roman walls found in the area; it became independent from Mollet del Vallès in the mid-19th century. The tower of Cellers, built over a former Roman villa beside the Via Augusta, is a medieval fortification originating in the 13th century, recognised in 1999 as the best-preserved castle in Catalonia.
Tower of Cellers
Monument
The Torre de Cellers stands in the municipality of Parets del Vallès, between the Tenes stream and the Besòs river. It is a castle of the late Middle Ages, perhaps with some early medieval element, first documented in 1258 in the name of Bernat de Cellers and rebuilt in the 14th century. Square in plan with a hipped roof and two battlemented circular towers at opposite corners, it was mentioned in the capitulations of John II during the Catalan civil war of 1472 and withstood attacks during the Guerra dels Segadors; in 1684 it was occupied by the baron of Rocafort and by around 1850 it was functioning as a tenant farm. It retains a hall with a barrel vault and a round arch made up of 15 voussoirs. It is declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection).
Tower of Malla de Parets
Monument
Historic tower in the municipality of Parets del Vallès, on the banks of the Besòs, at the point where this river joins the riera de Tenes. Possibly Roman remains have been found in the surrounding area, and it is believed that the Torre de Malla was originally a Roman villa called Villa Alzar, granted to a retired general of the Roman army to watch over the crossing of the Via Augusta towards Martorell with the road linking Barcelona and Vic. Local tradition also relates that the tower was the residence of a rich and powerful Moor.
Parets del Vallès Main Festival
Activity
Parets del Vallès celebrates the Festa Major d'Estiu at the end of July (July 24-27 in 2026) and a Festa Major d'Hivern in January, with events such as the Festa de la Pedra del Diable and the Rellotge de Parets.
La Linera textile factory
Historical milestone
Antoni Feliu i Peix raised in September 1880 the town's first factory, devoted to cotton and linen, with 28 looms and 38 workers. It closed in 1971 and today it is a public park: there remain the 23-metre chimney, the director's tower and 111 workers' dwellings.
