Lliçà d'Amunt
Village
Lliçà d'Amunt is a municipality in the Vallès Oriental, in the province of Barcelona, 5 km from Granollers, with 16,540 inhabitants (INE 2025). Its name derives from the Roman name Licius. The old quarter is concentrated next to the parish church and the fortified farmhouse or castle of Can Puig, on a hill overlooking the village. The parish of Sant Julià has been documented since the early 11th century; in 1149 the bishop of Barcelona, Guillem de Torroja, joined it to the monastery of Sant Miquel del Fai, a subjection that lasted until 1751. The present church, basically Romanesque, was rebuilt at the end of the 11th century and enlarged between the 15th and 17th centuries with several chapels; its bell tower was begun around 1508 and preserves a Gothic-Renaissance doorway.
