What to see and do in Lliçà de Vall

Lliçà de Vall
Village
Lliçà de Vall is a small municipality in the Vallès Oriental, located in the Vall del Tenes, on the edge of the Granollers plain, and preserves the Renaissance manor house of Can Coll. The village grew up beside the Mardano stream, at the crossroads of the old routes towards Caldes de Montbui, Lliçà d'Amunt and Granollers. Its territory, with rolling terrain covered in pine woods, holm oaks and meadows, is crossed by the Tenes river, a tributary of the Besòs, and rises to the hill of Can Farners, at 213 metres. Although housing developments and industrial estates have gained ground, especially to the south, dry farmland and woods such as Can Prat and Can Vilardebò still remain. In the Tenes valley, human remains from the end of the Palaeolithic, some 10,000 years old, have been found.
Can Coll
Monument
Can Coll is a fortified house of 3,340 m² built on a 20,000 m² estate in the municipality of Lliçà de Vall, declared bien cultural de interés nacional (Catalonia's highest level of heritage protection). The chapel of Sant Joan Baptista is documented since 1009, and the farmhouse is probably of the same period; the Coll family, owners since the 14th century, built the imposing watchtower in 1576, dating from the 16th century, beside the house. In 1765, with the marriage of the heiress Gertrudis Coll, the farmhouse was enlarged and transformed into a manor residence in the style of French palaces, with a noble hall decorated with paintings by the Italian A. Vertuchi. Used as a restaurant in the 20th century, the Town Council acquired the whole estate in 2017 to turn it into a house-museum.
