La Llagosta
Village
La Llagosta is an industrial municipality in the south of the Vallès Oriental, in Barcelona, on the banks of the Besòs, with only 3.01 km², the smallest municipal area in the comarca. The urbanised area covers barely 1.5 km²; the rest is an industrial estate and undeveloped land. The earliest data on the territory date from Roman times, when a secondary road branched off from the Via Augusta towards Barcino, running parallel to the Besòs. In the Middle Ages it belonged to the feudal domain of the king and various lords, and from the 15th to the mid-16th century it was owned by the monks of Montalegre. It was part of the parish of Cabanyes, consecrated in 1192; in 1731 it had only eight houses and 49 residents, and it remained sparsely and scatteredly populated well into the 20th century.
Separation from Sant Fost de Campsentelles
Historical milestone
The residents promoted in 1936 the first segregation from Sant Fost de Campsentelles; after a reintegration during the war, the separation was definitive in 1944. Industry sent the population soaring from 681 inhabitants in 1950 to 11,519 in 1975.
