What to see and do in Badia del Vallès

Badia del Vallès
Village
Badia del Vallès, in the comarca of Vallès Occidental, is the youngest municipality in Catalonia, established on 14 April 1994 by separation from Barberà del Vallès and Cerdanyola del Vallès, with 13,060 inhabitants. It arose in the 1960s from a Francoist government plan to build a city of housing, mostly prefabricated blocks, on the Can Sanfeliu farmhouse estate; work, begun in 1970, was scaled back when the Barcelona-Terrassa motorway took up a large part of the planned land, and the new town was not presented until 1975. The initial lack of amenities gave rise to a very active neighbourhood movement that over the years secured schools, nurseries, a municipal market and, in 2002, after fourteen years of campaigning, the Civic Centre.

Historical milestone
Raised from 1970 over former fields and inaugurated in 1975 with some 5,372 dwellings for workers who came from other regions, it functioned as a joint authority of Barberà and Cerdanyola until on 14 April 1994 it was constituted as an independent municipality.
