What to see and do in Capolat

Capolat
Village
Capolat is a small rural municipality in the Berguedà, in the province of Barcelona, one of the least populated in the comarca, at its western edge, bordering the Solsonès and the municipalities of Navès and Guixers. Its mountainous terrain takes its origin from Capolat castle, one of the nine castles of the former comarca of Cardona, whose jurisdiction always belonged to the viscountcy and later duchy of Cardona. The parish church of Sant Martí de Capolat, already documented in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the seventeenth or eighteenth, stands at 1,287 metres; from the nearby church of Sant Salvador significant ruins of Romanesque masonry survive. The municipality, with its population scattered across farmsteads, lives on livestock raising and on pine, oak and holm oak woods. It has 93 inhabitants.
Church of Sant Andreu de Capolat
Monument
A church in the municipality of Capolat, in the Berguedà, included in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. It is a small Romanesque temple, with a single nave covered by a barrel vault that ends in an apse almost as wide as the nave, separated from it by a triumphal arch. The apse has two splayed windows, and the door opens in the south wall, with a voussoired round arch. To the west stands a two-light bellcote, massive in appearance, and the roof is gabled with Arabic tiles; in the 18th century a small sacristy was added on the north side. It is an 11th-century building for which no act of consecration survives, and about which there is scarcely any specific information.
