What to see and do in Sant Just Desvern

Sant Just Desvern
Village
Sant Just Desvern is a metropolitan municipality of Barcelona located at the foot of the Collserola mountains, 10 km from the city centre. With a little over 20,000 inhabitants, it ranks among the municipalities with the highest per capita income in Catalonia. It preserves the church of Sant Just i Sant Pastor, farmhouses and modernist buildings, alongside emblematic contemporary constructions such as the Walden building, the work of architect Ricardo Bofill. The municipal area, surrounded by hills such as the peña del Moro or that of San Pedro Mártir, which reaches 367 metres, is largely integrated into the Collserola park.
Church of Sant Just i Sant Pastor
Monument
Parish church of Sant Just Desvern (Baix Llobregat), located on the Plaça de l'Església, around which the historic centre of the village took shape. An earlier temple, pre-Romanesque or Romanesque, is already mentioned in 986; in 1569 it was decided to build a new church with a Renaissance portal, and between 1575 and 1578 the Occitan master builder Lleonard Bosch constructed the present building, with a single nave and a pentagonal apse covered by a ribbed vault; in 1676 the side chapels were added. Its portal, of classical inspiration, has two Ionic columns supporting a pediment with a coat of arms bearing the bell, the symbol of Sant Just. Burned down on 21 July 1936, it was rebuilt between 1939 and 1943.
Natural Park of the Serra de Collserola
Nature
The Serra de Collserola Natural Park is a protected natural area located right within the metropolitan area of Barcelona, between the Besòs and Llobregat rivers, and one of the largest metropolitan parks in Europe. It covers around 8,300 hectares spread across nine municipalities, including Sant Just Desvern, and separates the Barcelona plain from the Vallès depression. Its highest point is Tibidabo, at 512 metres. Mixed pine and holm-oak woodlands predominate, with springs and wetland areas, and it preserves traces of human occupation such as the churches of San Medir and Santa Creu d'Olorda and the Can Coll farmhouse, home to a rural life museum. The Generalitat de Catalunya declared it a natural park on 19 October 2010.
Walden 7 and the converted factory
Historical milestone
Ricardo Bofill and his Taller de Arquitectura raised between 1970 and 1975 the Walden 7 housing building on the grounds of a former cement works, whose silos they converted into a studio. The complex is an icon of the architecture of the late Franco period.
