Sant Vicenç dels Horts
Village
Sant Vicenç dels Horts is a municipality in the Baix Llobregat district, in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, with 28,746 inhabitants, located on the right bank of the river Llobregat, which marks its southern boundary, among the eastern foothills of the Garraf-Ordal massifs, where the Puig Rocabruna rises to 301 metres. Its name is documented as Garrosa in 955 and as Villagarrosa in 959, later evolving into San Vicente "ad ipsos Ortos Chometales", in honour of properties that Count Ramón Borrell granted in 1017 to the Count of Barcelona and to the monastery of San Cugat del Vallés. In 2007 a 4th-5th century Roman kiln with wine-production material was discovered beneath the Les Voltes public library, and the municipality also preserves the Molino de los Frailes (Friars' Mill), dating from 1315.
Church of Sant Vicenç dels Horts
Monument
Parish church that gives its name to the municipality of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, in the Baix Llobregat. It is a Baroque temple rebuilt between 1718 and 1725 after the fire that destroyed the earlier building in 1717, with a single rectangular nave without a prominent apse, side chapels between buttresses, and an interior decorated with paintings on liturgical themes and floral motifs. It was consecrated on 22 April 1725. The altar and the grille, destroyed during the Civil War, were rebuilt between 1939 and 1941 by the architect Francesc Folguera i Grassi, and in 1997 the bell tower was restored and the façade clad in marble. It is listed as a cultural asset of local interest.
