What to see and do in Les Cabanyes

Les Cabanyes
Village
Les Cabanyes is one of the smallest municipalities in Alt Penedès, in the province of Barcelona, with a territory of 1.79 km² and 1,060 inhabitants (2025), at 252 m above sea level, next to the riera de Manyans. The remains of a Roman villa at San Valentín, active between the 1st century BC and the 7th century AD, of which a mosaic fragment survives, attest to the ancient occupation of the site. The village is documented from the late 12th century, built on lands of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, which in 1135 established itself in the Romanesque church of San Valentín, the order's first commandery in Penedès, moved to Vilafranca in 1306. Twice, in 1868 and 1924, it successfully defended its autonomy against merging with Vilobí. The physician José Torras y Bages (1846-1916) was born in the house of Mas Gomà.
