Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues
Village
Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues is a municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca, in the province of Barcelona, located 49 kilometres from the capital and at an altitude of 270 metres; it has 1,038 inhabitants (2025). It has been documented since 1018, when it belonged to bishop Hug de Cervelló, and in 1394 Vilafranca del Penedès acquired its jurisdiction and incorporated it into the crown. Its economy has always revolved around vine cultivation, an activity that set the pace of the population's growth and that suffered a severe blow from the phylloxera crisis. Within the municipal area stands the Masia de la Torre del Gall farmhouse, perhaps built on an old Roman structure from the 15th century onward. The village preserves the Forn Museum, with agricultural tools from rural life.
