Revellinos
Village
Revellinos is a village in the province of Zamora with 223 inhabitants, whose oldest signs of occupation, found at the site of Fuente Salina, date back to the early Iron Age and continue into Roman times. The place name would come from the Leonese 'Revelle', and the first documentary mention of the village dates from the year 945, under the reign of Ramiro II of León; it later belonged to the Santiago military order's commandery of Castrotorafe. It preserves the 15th-century church of Santo Tomás, built of brick and rammed earth, with a Mudéjar coffered ceiling in the main chapel and the image of the Cristo de la Misericordia on an altarpiece with fluted columns. It also has a bird observatory facing the lagoons of la Rosa and Paneras, and several dovecotes, one of them with circular, pagoda-shaped roofs.
