Cerecinos de Campos
Village
Cerecinos de Campos is a village in the Tierra de Campos comarca, in the province of Zamora, divided into two quarters by the la Vega stream, each with its own church: Santa Marta, the older one, in the upper quarter, and San Juan Bautista in the lower one. It arose during the 11th-century medieval resettlement, from two separate nuclei, Cerecinos de los Barrios and Cerecinos de la Orden, which were not unified until the 19th century; the lower quarter belonged to the Order of St John of Jerusalem following a grant by Ferdinand II of León in 1174. Fossil remains of a primitive elephant, Deinotherium giganteum, have been found within its municipal area. It lives from agriculture and livestock farming, with two inns and a flour mill. It has 231 inhabitants.
