Barcial del Barco
Village
Barcial del Barco is a village in the comarca of Benavente y Los Valles, in the province of Zamora, situated in the valley of the river Esla, alongside the Vía de la Plata. Its resettlement is linked to the victory of the armies of Alfonso III at the battle of la Polvorosa, in the year 878, which brought the place into the Kingdom of León; in the early modern period it formed part of the Lands of the Count of Benavente, and since 1834 it has belonged to the judicial district of Benavente. The most notable feature of the town is the tower of its church of Santa Marina, which starts square and becomes octagonal at mid-height. Its wines are protected by the Valles de Benavente geographical indication, and it celebrates its festivities on 18 July in honour of Santa Marina, as well as Saint Isidore the Farmer on 15 May. It has 254 inhabitants.
