Moreruela de los Infanzones
Village
Moreruela de los Infanzones is a village of 318 inhabitants located fifteen kilometres from Zamora. It was resettled by the León monarchs to secure the Duero defensive line, and their heirs later granted tithes and rights to present priests to the Chapter of Zamora Cathedral. In its municipal area the hermitages of the Santo Cristo and Nuestra Señora de Miro were built, and during the Peninsular War, in 1809, the council had to borrow the church's silver to pay the contributions demanded by Napoleon's troops. Today it lives from rain-fed farming and pig, cattle and sheep farming; its church of San Pedro holds a major altarpiece with thirteen 17th-century paintings of the Apostles.
