Pobladura de Valderaduey
Village
Pobladura de Valderaduey is a hamlet of 34 inhabitants in the comarca of Tierra de Alba, in the province of Zamora, located beside the river that gives it its name. It was resettled in the Middle Ages by the León kings to secure their positions along the Valderaduey riverbed, and its first written mention dates from 1172, in a donation to the bishop of Zamora. In 1558 its jurisdiction was sold to a knight from Zamora to help pay for the kingdom's defence expenses. In the mid-19th century it had 181 inhabitants. Its church of San Miguel Arcángel, from the late 15th or early 16th century, with clear Mudejar influences, preserves an 18th-century Baroque major altarpiece with an image of the Pietà; the village celebrates its festival on 9 May, in honour of san Gregorio.
