Aspariegos
Village
Aspariegos is a village in Zamora province, in the Alfoz de Toro area, set on a hill near the Valderaduey river, with 223 inhabitants. In the site of La Manuela, also called La Salgada, Roman remains survive over almost ten hectares, identified with the mansio Vico Aquario from the Antonine Itinerary, where building materials, pottery and mills have been found. The village's present site arose from the resettlement carried out by the Leonese monarchy in the Valderaduey valley, whose boundaries absorbed the depopulated hamlets of Canillos, Fradejas, Grajalejo and Monzón. At the Cortes of 1391, Ferrant Rodríguez de Aspariegos, a native of Aspariegos, represented Zamora before the Crown.
