What to see and do in Losacio

Losacio
Village
Losacio is a hamlet in Tierra de Alba, in the province of Zamora, with 90 inhabitants. Its name alludes to buildings roofed with stone slabs, such as water mills and ovens, common in the popular architecture of the area. Resettled in the Middle Ages within the Kingdom of León, it suffered border conflicts with Portugal after the latter's independence in 1143, and during the 13th and 14th centuries it belonged to the Order of the Temple, forming part of the commandery of Alba. It had mines of argentiferous lead and antimony, worked in the 19th century and reopened in the mid-20th, of which only sealed shafts and galleries remain today. It was one of the most active municipalities in the comarca in the first half of the 20th century, with 612 inhabitants in 1950, a figure that rural exodus reduced to little more than a hundred.
