Carbajales de Alba
Village
Carbajales de Alba is the capital of the Zamora comarca of Tierra de Alba, with 463 inhabitants on the banks of the Esla reservoir, 28 kilometres from the provincial capital. Its earliest settlements are located at Peñas Coronas, a ridge of quartzite of hillfort type, and between the 13th and 14th centuries the whole of Tierra de Alba belonged to the Order of the Temple as a Templar commandery. It is famous for its embroidery and for the carbajalina costume, whose origins go back beyond the 16th century and which has won international awards. It preserves notable traditional architectural heritage, including the church of San Pedro, the Fort of San Carlos, the façade of the palace of the Marquis of Tábara and the Embroidery Workshop Museum.
