What to see and do in Videmala

Videmala
Village
Videmala is a municipality in the comarca of Aliste, in western Zamora, near the border with Portugal, made up of the districts of Villanueva de los Corchos and Videmala; it has 131 inhabitants. It extends between the Aliste and Malo rivers, with sites such as the route of Las Fayas, with viewpoints over the Aliste. Incorporated into the Kingdom of León after its formation in the year 910, it was for centuries a zone of friction between the kingdoms of León and Portugal; in the Early Modern period it belonged to the Partido de Carbajales, which is why it is still known as Videmala de Alba. The hamlet, built of adobe, stone and wood, preserves dovecotes, a farrier's frame for shoeing animals and troughs. The bells of its church of San Julián sound different because they were cast together with the old silver bell of the vanished hermitage of Santa Bárbara.
