Olmillos de Castro
Village
Olmillos de Castro is a municipality in the province of Zamora, covering 71.39 km², located beside the Sierra Roldana and the Ricobayo reservoir, 40 kilometres from the provincial capital. With 182 inhabitants, it includes the hamlets of Marquiz de Alba, Navianos de Alba and San Martín de Tábara. Resettled in the Middle Ages by the kings of León, its origin is linked to the fortress of Castrotorafe, under whose Order of Santiago commandery it fell. It belonged to the judicial district of Alcañices between 1834 and 1983. Its church of Santa Marina displays a tall, slender bell-gable, with a neoclassical three-arched belfry, a side tower with a small dome and a blind oculus marked with the cross of Santiago. Its main festivals are Santa Marina, on 18 July, and San Roque, on 19 January.
