Losacino
Village
Losacino is a municipality in Tierra de Alba, in Zamora, with 189 inhabitants (INE 2025), which besides the namesake village includes Castillo de Alba, Muga de Alba and Vide de Alba, beside the Esla reservoir. At the La Muela-El Chano site, in a meander of the Esla, Acheulean pieces from the Palaeolithic and Roman remains have been found, the earliest evidence of settlement in the municipality. During the 13th and 14th centuries it belonged to the Order of the Temple, within the Templar commandery of Alba, granted by Alfonso IX of León in 1220. Its church of San Pelayo, built in the 1930s after the earlier temple was affected by the reservoir, preserves a Baroque central altarpiece and the image of the titular saint. The castle of Alba, in the namesake hamlet, is declared a bien de interés cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
