Ferreruela
Village
Ferreruela is a municipality in the province of Zamora, in the Tierra de Alba comarca, which brings together with the main settlement the towns of Escober de Tábara and Sesnández de Tábara, incorporated around 1850. During the Middle Ages it was part of the resettlement of the Kingdom of León, and from 1371 it was incorporated into the lordship of Tábara, later the Marquisate of Távara, on which it also depended in the early modern period. Its inhabitants live from agriculture, sheep and cattle farming and quarry work, in a landscape of scrubland and holm-oak woods close to the sierra de la Culebra. Its church of la Asunción displays a strong, pointed bell-gable and a baptismal font with incisions in the shape of saltire crosses. It has 409 inhabitants, in an area that has been undergoing a process of depopulation for decades.
